Cardboard is the Medium
Cardboard has a durability, availability, and immediately paintable surface that makes it the perfect medium for a child's play. With a few cuts and a splash of color children can themselves create the impression of anything. Its disposable (or recyclable) nature makes it the ideal choice for a one-act play.
Theater is the Vehicle
"All the world's a stage." -ShakespeareThese simple summer plays give children a format for expression that all are capable of without prior experience or training. Using a written format gives children a way to participate in something bigger than themselves without all the renegotiating that naturally occurs in their own games. And it's a chance to get messy and make new friends--isn't that what summer is all about?
